A “maquette” is a term used for a smaller scale model a sculptor makes to work out his ideas before making the final, full scale piece of art. Depending on the desire of the individual artist, these maquettes might be destroyed after the project is finished, hidden away where no other person will ever see them, or can become artworks themselves. I have chosen the latter for this piece.

Displayed here in my portfolio you'll find two different versions of the maquette I made for a full, life sized sculpture of the Crucified Christ at the request of the Divine Mercy Center in Clinton Township, Michigan. Both are identical reproductions of the maquette, but one is rendered with a more time consuming “realistic” finish, and the other a simpler patina. To differentiate the small scale version from the full sized version, which you'll also see in my portfolio, you'll see the term “maquette” in the title.

The final, full size version of the sculpture adorns the center of the Divine Mercy Center's outdoor Stations of the Cross prayer garden. Both the Maquette version and the full sized sculpture are available for you or your organization to own. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Divine Mercy Center, a very devoted deserving servant of God and the the community.
