Emersion has a long and interesting back story. In fact, I've been invited, numerous times, to give a presentation to groups about the ups and downs of how it all came to be. It seems like there's never enough time to fit in everything that transpired. I'll spare you most of that and give you just a few highlights.

Emersion was my first sculpture commission. In fact, before that I only painted large scale murals. So when a call for artists went out from St. Margaret of Scotland's church in St. Clair Shores, Michigan for a piece of artwork to adorn their recently renovated Sanctuary, I threw my hat in the ring to paint them a mural. But the church had already decided it was to be a sculpture that would adorn the wall behind their alter and my heart sunk after that first meeting.

Long story short, after declining the invitation to submit a sculptural entry, months later, at the eleventh hour and at the behest of the parish pastor, I did submit an entry. To my utter shock and bewilderment, my entry was chosen by the art committee. It was a project that took over 2 years to unfold and included many surprises, setbacks, joys and pains before we got it across the finish line. The fine people of St. Margaret of Scotland will forever hold a special place in my heart!
